While standard Zenitcameras of the period used 135 film with 36 exposures, competingmanufacturers had already introduced models capable of 250 exposures. To match this, the Krasnogorsk factory was tasked with creating a 250-exposure version of the Zenit. The project was never brought into the serial production, but a small number of prototypes were completed.
