5399Leica M2black paint %u2018Sarkis%u2019A very special Leica M2 black paint, owned and used by the renowned French conceptual artist Sarkis Zabunyan. The word %u2018KRIEGSSCHATZ%u2019 (%u2018war treasure%u2019in German), engraved on the back of the top plate, became a central motifin numerous exhibitions and works by Sarkis and is widely regarded as a key element of his artistic vocabulary. The camera is offered together with a brass-mount Summicron 2/50mm, serial no.1474808. The lot further includes a signed copy of the highly sought-after art book Blackout Leica Museum (Berlin, 1976, near-mint condition). Born in 1938, Sarkis Zabunyan%u2014known professionally simply as SARKIS%u2014is aFrench artist of Armenian origin. His interest in art began in his youth after encountering an illustration of Edvard Munch%u2019s The Scream in a newspaper. In 1964, he emigrated to Paris with his wife and established a studio in Villejuif. His work has since been exhibited internationally, and in 1980 he was appointed professor at the %u00c9cole des Arts D%u00e9coratifs in Strasbourg.
