The 1966 Noctilux 1.2/50 mm was the first 50 mm lens in the world containing an aspheric element. Leitz Wetzlar optical designers Helmut Frank and Dr Paul Sindel were responsible for optical computation. The lens was introduced in 1966 and was received by the market as a sensation. It is almost entirely free of spherical aberration and coma while producing an exceptionally high contrast. Forty-five years ago, however, even for Leitz, it was quite a challenge to create such a lens, a fact reflected in its price: the lens was almost twice as expensive as the body of a Leica M4. It was replaced by the 50 mm Noctilux f/1 in 1976, which%u2014using optical glasses new at that time%u2014could be calculated without aspherical elements and was even cheaper than its predecessor. In ten years of its production, only about 2500 units of the 50 mm Noctilux f/1.2 were produced in total, representing one unit per business day. The Noctilux f/1.2 lens can truly be called a legend in the technical development of the Leica lenses. It is sought-after by collectors and still a favourite of some photographers. The offered example is in beautiful cosmetic condition, almost perfect optics only showing few flakes on the far sides, with an original 12503 hood, front cap, plastic keeper and a scarce maker%u2019s box with a matching serial number!188 Noctilux 1.2/50mm 11820 %u20ac12.000*no. 2254401, 1968, condition A/B %u20ac 24.000 %u2013 26.000Sought-after, first version Noctilux in excellent condition, excellent optics, with matching 12503 hood, both caps.189 Noctilux-M 1/50mm 11821 %u20ac3.000*no. 3569487, 1991, condition A%u2013 %u20ac 6.000 %u2013 7.000E60 Noctilux in beautiful, near mint condition, clean and clear optics, with 12544 hood, UVa filter, caps, case and maker%u2019s box.190 Summilux-M 1.4/75mm %u20ac1.500*11814 first batch no. 3064208, 1980, condition A%u2013 %u20ac 3.000 %u2013 3.400Rare very early lens from the first of 2 batches, only 2000 pieces of this first type with detachable lens hood have been produced with starting no. 3063301, in mint%u00a0condition, optics only showing traces of removed fungus, with both caps, rare hood 12539 (also for Noctilux 1.0/50 mm) and matching%u00a0maker%u2019s box.
