Commonly associated with the so-called %u2018Olympic%u2019 Nikkor-S 1.4/5 cm, the model combines the classic S3 design with the appeal of Nikon%u2019s final rangefinder-era production. Produced in only approx. 195 examples, with fewer than half believed to have been finished in black paint, the model ranks among the rarest and most unusual cameras of the entire Nikon rangefinder system. Designed as a half-frame variant of the Nikon S3 for 18 %u00d7 24 mm exposures, it allowed up to 72 images on a standard 36-exposure film and was intended for use with the S72 motor drive.
